Geek and Trendy Baby Shower Fun STEP 3: Geekify Traditional Shower Games

Hello fellow nerds and/or geek enthusiasts, in this blog we will go over STEP 3: How to Geekify traditional shower games.

“Guess the Geek” is a spin on the traditional “Guess the Baby” baby shower game where each guest’s baby picture is assigned a number and posted up on a magnetic wall board. Guests then guess which baby picture corresponds to each guest via a handy dandy worksheet.  After everyone is finished cooing over the photos, correct answers are revealed, and a prize is awarded to the person with the most correctly matched up guesses.  What is truly great about the Guess the Geek Board is that it is completely reusable after it has served it’s purpose at the baby shower.  Afterwards Mama can turn it into a monthly milestone board, a photo board, or a quote board.  The possibilities are endless.

GEEKIFY IT 1:  Put nerdy glasses on the baby pictures.

GEEKIFY IT 2:  Add a “geek type” guessing component:  In addition to matching the baby picture, they also have to guess what type of geek each person is.

This definitely added another fun element to the guessing game where everyone can marvel at the different varieties of geekdom out there and learn more about each other.  As you may recall from our last post, when guests were invited, they were asked in advance, to submit to the host what type of geek they considered themselves to be.  On top of “gamer geek” and “Star Wars geek” some other guests proclaimed themselves as “fashion geek,” “useless information geek” and “food geek” to share a few from the party…

Geek #11 is Florence’s 19 month old as a newborn.  He is a major BALL GEEK!  Mr. Ball Geek is wearing Geek and Trendy’s GEEKZILLA & Chewie Is My Co-Pilot onesie.

“Don’t Say Baby” is a traditional baby shower game played with clothespins.

GEEKIFY IT 1: Instead of clothespins, play the game with nerdy glasses! As each guest arrives, give each two geeky glasses to wear. If one guest hears another say the word “baby” (we added “boy” and “brother”), they can take their glasses away.  Whoever has the most glasses at the end wins!

Don't Say Baby Glasses Game 2

It was fun seeing glasses accumulate along the necklines.  These thick black rimmed glasses added a fun geeky aspect to our shower theme.  They were awesome props and decorations.  Plus, guests could take them home as a shower gift too!

Here’s what someone who is dominating this particular game looks like: can we say bling?

Glasses galore

Of course there are a certain  traditional baby shower games that we played such as “Baby Food Tasting” and “Guess the Circumference of Mommy’s Belly” that fits right in, as is, in any shower.

Geek and Trendy Baby Shower Fun STEP 2: Geekify Your Invites

Greetings fellow geeks!  This is Geek and Trendy second blog post on how to throw a geek themed baby shower. In this post we will go over how to create a geek-tastic invite.  If you missed our last blog, CLICK HERE to read our Introduction and catch up on STEP 1.

STEP 2:  Create Your Invite

There are numerous choices of online sites to help you design and create your one of a kind baby shower invitation.  For our Geek and Trendy Baby Brunch, Sara decided to use Evite.com.  She was able to create and email online invitation at a minimal cost.  The great thing about creating your invitation online is that there is no fee to design the invitation.  You only have to pay fees based on how many evites you choose to email out. (Wohoo, extra money towards awesome food and decorations!) For those of you who loves keepsakes, for a small fee, you can order a printed version of the invitation.

For  Florence’s baby shower, Sara decided to go for a mad science geek theme so she found a cute atom and flask wallpaper to use as background for the invitation.   For an extra touch of geek chic, she threw in the iconic black rim eye glasses.  Below is our geeky invitation.

Baby Geek Invite

Attached to the invite was a note to guests requesting that they submit (in advance) their baby pictures to the host in preparation for a round of “Guess the Geek” at the party. They also had to submit what kind of geek they considered themselves to be.  For example, a “gamer geek” or “Star Wars geek.”  Read more about this in our coming blog on how to geekify traditional baby shower games.
